In the areas of Maths and English, our students are achieving pleasing results. Significant emphasis has been placed on setting targets and standards, providing additional assistance and maintaining a rigid assessment schedule.

Currently Meadowglen provides the specialist programs of Physical Education, Science, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. Whilst these programs provide unique experiences for students, teachers also benefit from a common planning time where they have the opportunity to enter into meaningful dialogue and attend to matters relating to curriculum.

By adopting single year level classes across the school, teachers are able to plan in smaller, effective teams and provide a curriculum that better meets the needs of students.

Programs

VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards)
Over the next few years, there will be a strong emphasis on developing the principles of teaching and learning, the thinking curriculum, continuous improvement practices and the introduction of VELS. The school will also review the integrated curriculum along with the scope and sequence chart to reflect VELS.

Student Wellbeing
The school’s Student Wellbeing program clearly reflects an ever increasing emphasis on the personal safety of students and their emotional health. The school’s agreed values will continue to demonstrate the behaviour that is expected at this school. Individual class discipline plans will continue to be negotiated with students and consequences acted on when the need arises. The school’s educational psychologist, speech therapist and the school nurse will support and supplement the important work done by Meadowglen staff.

The strong partnership between the home and school will ensure that students don’t ‘fall through the cracks’. The school will continue to articulate to parents and students the standards of behaviour that we expect. This will be achieved through phone calls home, meetings with parents, both formal and informal, and through various other methods of communication.
